A Little Midnight Surprise

So.... I'm 21 right?

Right.

I am supposed to be young, healthy, living up life...

Well Sunday night, I start dreaming newspaper layouts.
For some reason.. nothing fits on the left side of my spread!

Then, I wake up from this dream with a ton of pain in my lower back...on the left!
It then proceeds to spread to my side, it is about 1:20 A.M.

It. was. HORRIBLE.

I tried everything: stretching, icing, praying!

Laying down hurt.
Standing up hurt.

so what did I do?

I paced my room and cried.
I then took 2 ibuprofen and called my sister.

And get this, she answered! At 2:30 in the morning!
What a good sister! (who is also a nurse)

She tells me, "I think its a kidney stone."
She then tells me to eat something so the medicine will work.
I cry and tell her food is gross and I am nauseous.
But, I slowly eat some bread regardless.

She calls a half hour later and I am still in pain.
She says to put some heat on it and lets me talk to our mom.
I am told I have two options:

 going to the emergency room
or
wait for the schools wellness clinic to open.

"But the E.R. is for emergencies!" I exclaim.

So... I waited.
I curled up on my couch by the microwave and every half hour reheated my heating pad.
No sleeping was permitted until about 5 A.M.
Then suddenly my alarm goes off at 6:45 A.M.

I think, "I made it!"
and slowly make my way to my bedroom while grabbing my side.

Oh no. The wellness center doesn't open until 8:30....

Luckily, I take two more ibuprofen and fall asleep until 11.

I wake up feeling MUCH MUCH better, but still aching a bit.

I got to the doctor and they made me pee in a cup.
I hate peeing in cups!

Lab results come back and the doc says:

kidney stone.

She thinks it may have passed overnight since my pain level has gone from 8 to 4.
She gives me a painkiller anyways.

Then last night, I awake at 3 A.M. in horrible plain all over again....
Lortab... you did not do your job very well!

In the meantime, I'm worrying about homework and classes; school is the last place I want to be!

Dear Mr. Kidney Stone.... can't we just get over this!?
I really have a lot to do!

Well my friends you know what they say,
"This too shall pass....."

I sure hope so.

(Get it!?)
